Fickle Groups: An Empirical Assessment of Time Preferences Using Experimental Data∗
نویسنده
چکیده
Inconsistencies in individual intertemporal choices have been well documented in Economics. This paper studies individual and collective decisions through the preference elicitation method over task (real consumption). For this purpose, a joint experimental elicitation of time preferences was performed for the groups (who have to reach a consensus) as well as for their individual members. Using an analysis of the elicited choices of decision making over time, the study found that group/joint decision making resulted in much higher elicited present-bias (procrastination) as compared to individual decision making. This finding is robust to a variety of alternative specifications. The results also suggest that the group/joint aspect of the decision-making process exacerbates standard measures of present-bias due to group members’ discount rate heterogeneity. The study also concludes that the presence of a dominant individual based on bargaining power improves the procrastination tendency in group. JEL classification: C91, D12, D81

transaction cost and Time inconsistency in consumption- Savings behavior(experimental approach)
Empirical and experimental studies demonstrate that the rates of time preferences are smaller in long run in comparison with that of short run. In other word individuals are present bias; and it is one of the reasons that the saving is less than its optimal level. The aim of this study is to examine if the dearth of sufficient information results in time inconsistency in individual decisions fo...
متن کاملPresenting an Empirical Correlation for Maximum Sauter Mean Diameter in a Spray Extraction Column
Based on the importance of drops' behavior in liquid-liquid extraction, the maximum sauter mean drop diameter has been investigated and correlated in a counter-current spray extraction column with two chemical systems. Spargers were set of nozzles in all experiments. Studying the effects of several parameters on drops size, some correlations were estimated by the last available version of softw...
متن کاملValue of Travel Time :Theoretical and Empirical Method
The value of travel time savings (VTTS) is the monetary value attached to save a determined amount of travel time. VTTS is also the most important benefit category aimed at justifying investments in transport infrastructures by public administrations. Hence VTTS played a significant role in various economic studies, both analytical and empirical (Zamparini & Reggiani, 2007). "It is difficult to...

Regarding the importance of accuracy and speed among the midwifery students, especially in the stressful condition of childbirth, this study aimed to investigate the effect of time management and precaution techniques on the midwifery student's clinical performance in the labour ward. Methods: This s...
متن کاملBee reverse - learning behavior and intra - colony differences : simulations reveal benefits of diversity
Foraging bees use color cues to help identify rewarding from unrewarding flowers. As environmental conditions change, bees may require behavioral flexibility to reverse their learnt preferences. Learning to discriminate perceptually similar colors takes bees a long time, and thus potentially poses a difficult task to reverse-learn. We trained free-flying honeybees to learn a fine color discrimi...
